What do you value? As we take the steps to go deeper inwardly so we can emerge more fully present outwardly, it is important to ask yourself;
- What is it that I truly value about the world?
- What is it that I truly value about others?
- What is it that I truly value about myself?
“Where focus goes, energy flows. And where energy flows, whatever you’re focusing on grows”
Whether you are building a life or a business it is imperative to take the time to investigate your values, your focus, what you stand for, and what you want to foster; within your life and by extension your business.
What are Values?
In The 6 Selves™ we discuss the Valued Self as forming our innate authentic power and its ability to operate and express itself in the ever-changing moment. To be grounded in what you stand for, allowing you to set healthy boundaries with friends, family, and your partner. In your business, showing up in a manner that reinforces those values, the capacity to earn and spend money as well as aligning ourselves with stakeholders who value our ideas, time, and energy.
Stakeholders is traditionally a term used to describe a member of a corporation, however, it can also define those in your tribe who support both your personal and professional growth.
I am inspired by a number of teachers and entrepreneurs. Like many around the globe, I am inspired by Anthony Robbins. In fact, one of my most inspired memories was doing Anthony’s iconic fire walk back in 1999 at one of his 4-day events in Sydney Australia. I was so nervous yet exhilarated, and that memory has stayed with me 20+ years later. Aside from his famous quote about what we focus on, he also discusses how values are the foundations of our beliefs, defining how we show up in our life and our business, and how our values are generally formed passively through our environment and the people we surround ourselves with (more on this in the Ecological Self). This is all fine; until we find ourselves at odds with our values, our environment, and our core relationships – when we find that they are no longer supporting the kind of life we truly want to live.
How do you define or redefine your values?
Allow yourself some time to deeply reflect on the life you want to live, who you want to show up as, as well as the experiences you want to cultivate.
As I mentioned earlier the majority of our current values have been formed passively, they are assumed based on our family of origin, cultural and societal beliefs as well as the year and stage of life we find ourselves in. Other factors include gender, life experiences, traumatic or unpleasant experiences, uplifting awakened or enlightened experiences and our daily choices. Next time you find yourself in a time of reflection, I invite you to actively and consciously decide how you want to be, who you want to be, and what you are willing to do to create this new version of yourself.
To assist you I have created a Values exercise, you may have seen or even done this previously. On this occasion, before you proceed please calibrate yourself to an energetic state that is aligned with heart consciousness so that you are operating from a space of kindness, compassion, universal love, and connection to self, others and the larger world around you. To access the exercise, simply click this link, then head to THE VALUED SELF section or go ahead and fill out the entire questionnaire.
Words of Wisdom
Your values, like most meaningful parts of your life, will grow and change as you do, as they should. If you are feeling at odds with any part of your life or your business this is a lovely reminder to revisit and perhaps redefine how you want to turn up and what values align with this evolving version of yourself.
Take your time, be gentle and show compassion to your past self, as they are the person that brought you here.
